When you come to Anaheim, come to play. There is so much going on I hardly know where to begin. We are home to the mouse, the Ducks and the Angels. That would be Disneyland, the Happiest Place on Earth and the most famous theme park in the world, the Might Ducks hockey team and the Anaheim Angels baseball team respectfully. In 2002 we loved watching our Angels win their first World Series. And we never tire of all the great musical acts and entertainment that are always in town. Santana, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Ozomatli at the House of Blues, Barry Manilow, The Lakers, The Mighty Ducks and Heavyweight Boxing Bouts at the Arrowhead Pond, and dont forget The Beach Boys and Nancy Sinatra at The Grove of Anaheim. We enjoy being the center of Orange Countys musical and sports entertainment.
In Anaheim you are never far from first-class entertainment or great family events. Come to Downtown Anaheim to enjoy the excellent Farmer's Market or go dancing under the stars. You can also take a date or the family for a skate on one of two rinks at Disney Ice. The Downtown Anaheim Association is host to national events such as the finish line of The Great Race Across America. The Anaheim Convention Center is the newest and largest convention center on the West Coast and one of the largest convention centers in the world. After three years of expansion and renovation, this new jewel has quickly become known as a regional architectural landmark. For great theater, The Chance Theater puts on bold and stunning theatrical productions in a unique and intimate setting and has earned much critical acclaim. They are always a strong bet for good community theater. Anaheim offers great opportunites for hanging out with the kids, meeting people in the community and having fun all at the same time. The Cinco de Mayo Fiesta includes the crowning of a fiesta queen, carnival rides, food booths, entertainment and a soccer tournament. You can look forward to excellent Greek food, pastries, music and folkdancers at The Greek Festival, the St. Boniface Parish Fiesta is a three day event at the landmark St. Boniface Church where parishioners and residents treat themselves to a variety of international foods, rides and games. We host the Miss Anaheim Scholarship Pageant, and the Anaheim Childrens Art Festival which is a great family event that draws about 7,000 people and enables young and old alike to try their hand at arts-and-crafts projects. The Anaheim Hills Fourth of July Festival and Parade includes a parade, 5K/10K run/walk, pancake breakfast, dog show, food and game booths and entertainment capped by a fireworks show that lights up the sky above the canyons. For the holidays dont miss The Nutcracker Festival which features strolling musicians and carolers, a visit from Santa Claus and a tree-lighting ceremony.
For some fun in the sun, Anaheim has two fantastic golf courses. The Anaheim Hills Golf Course is a challenging public 18-hole golf course featuring California terrain with ancient sycamore and oak trees. The Anaheim Equestrian Center is Anaheim's premier equestrian stables offering riding lessons, boarding, and top rated instructors for all levels of training. Featherly Park with its 795 acres has plenty of wide open space. A stately grove of mature Cottonwood and Sycamore trees and the Santa Ana River flowing through create the setting for this beautiful Park.
Anaheim is a city on the move, always changing and always growing. In the last decade Anaheim has gained more than 61,000 people, thats more than any of the other 33 cities of Orange County. The city also led the rest of the county in growth of its youth population, increasing by 29,969 from 1990 to 98,964 in 2000. We began as a small town, named by German settlers "Home on the Ana." Anaheim was a place where vineyards and wineries flourished, in the mid 19th century. But, Oranges replaced grapes and became the favored fruit in a county named Orange. Orange crops could be seen in groves stretching for miles. While they produced a hearty bounty, it wasn't enough to compete with top dollar prices offered for land in the boom of the early 1900's. Today Anaheim is a city with immaculate buildings on historic, palm-lined streets that face new, glass structures rising to the sky. Anaheim is a place where old and new reside side by side. We are a city of 328,014 people, the largest in Orange County and the wealthiest with more than $1 billion in city assets.
Its great owning a home and doing business in Anaheim. Part of the flourishing economy of Orange County, Anaheim has huge appeal because of its many ways to entertain. Anaheim is also a leading manufacturing center in the county, with more than 1,000 firms. Great companies like Disney, Boeing North American, Kaiser Permanente Foundation Hospital, AlStyle Apparel, Anaheim Hilton and Towers, AST Sportswear Inc., CB Richard Ellis Inc., Lee & Associates, Leach International Corp. Were doing something right because Orange County ranks 3rd nationally in median household income, ranks 14th nationally in retail sales and buying power, and we also enjoy an unemployment rate well below the national average. Anaheim is always growing and expanding its great business and tourist sector. The new 1,100-acre Anaheim Resort is home to Disney attractions, the renovated Anaheim Convention Center, and newly widened and palm tree-lined Katella Avenue and Harbor Boulevard. The Walt Disney Co. was a large part of the change, investing $1.4 billion into new attractions. Altogether, Disney, the city, the state and federal government spent $4.2 billion in the Anaheim Resort renovation and freeway improvements. They included Downtown Disney, a meandering 300,000-square-foot esplanade filled with shops and eateries. This coupled with many other ongoing and upcoming improvements make Anaheim a great destination for fun and business.
Learning is a life-long process. And nowhere can young learners get a better start than in Anaheim. The public and private schools serving the city of Anaheim provide a quality education by setting high standards for all students, expecting them to do their best in school work and to conduct themselves as responsible citizens. I like that all areas of learning are emphasized. Students have the opportunity to achieve in academic, career, athletic, music, and after-school activities. Its a community affair, with schools assisting parents with literacy and parenting classes to help them achieve their role as partners in the education of their children. The schools welcome diversity and the benefits of diversity in education. Invaluable resources like a clean, safe, environment, a low student-to-teacher ratio, materials and equipment to meet the needs of every learner, continuous professional development of all staff and parent involvement and education cant be come together for a successful educational program.
Living in Anaheim has been a dream come true. We finally found the home we always wanted. With so much to do, I am always trying something new. In Anaheim anything is possible.
