Cypress has been a farming town, a dairy town and a horse-racing town, but its always been a hometown.  Cypress is an outstanding family town with lively community events and a great business environment.  Cypress has grown into a town of more than 46,000 people.  It boasts an international business park, Cypress College, a community college with 16,000 students and the Los Alamitos Race Track.  Early on Cypress gained a reputation for amateur horse racing on Sundays.  Horse racing became so popular in town that by 1947 gamblers were betting $50 to $100 on races at Frank Vessels farm.  Los Alamitos Race Track was built near that farm.   Despite the excitement of the nearby racetrack, the neighborhoods are quiet and clean in Cypress.  Orange County is one of those places where you dream of raising a family, it is one of the safest and most flourishing counties in the country.  Cypress is a part of this great environment, but in a price range that wont break the bank. There is plenty to do in and around Cypress.  We get the best both Orange County and Los Angeles County have to offer.  Cypress is located just minutes from Disneyland, the Happiest Place on Earth, Knott's Berry Farm with thrilling roller coasters and games for family fun, the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific, the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, the Long Beach Queen Mary and southern California's famous beaches.   You can make your way to nearby Catalina Island for a day filled with more adventure and amusement than any theme park.  In the sheltered and secluded city of Avalon, you'll find quaint shops and restaurants.  Here, you can also enjoy kayaking, jet skiing, swimming, snorkeling in Catalina's crystal clear waters filled with colorful fish.  If you like great sports and entertainment, you should definitely check out a Mighty Ducks hockey game, the Lakers and Heavyweight Boxing Bouts at the Arrowhead Pond, or cheer on the Anaheim Angels baseball team.  There are plenty of other acts to catch like Santana, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Ozomatli at the House of Blues, Barry Manilow,  and dont forget The Beach Boys and Nancy Sinatra at The Grove of Anaheim. You can still get the feel of classic racing at the Los Alamitos Race Track, which features quarter horse and harness racing and seasonal thoroughbred racing.  We are home to the Cypress Pops Orchestra, the only professional "pops" orchestra in the county.  We like to support our local theatre group too.  The Cypress Civic Theatre Guild is one of the oldest community-theater companies in northwest Orange County.  The guild is very active, staging five shows each season, including comedies, dramas and a childrens play.  There are also 16 parks scattered around the city, with baseball fields, soccer fields, basketball courts, roller hockey rinks, picnic areas and barbeques, everything you need a for an excellent family outing.  The Cypress Skate Plaza at Veterans Park is a great place to take the kids after school.

As any good family town should, Cypress has great community events.  The biggest and best event is the Cypress Community Festival, the largest one-day festival in Orange County that attracts over 20,000 people annually to commemorate Cypress incorporation in 1956.  The event features a chili cook-off, a classic car show, carnival games, bands, a 5K/10K run, food, games and fun.  The Easter Egg Hunt finds children looking for colored eggs, toys and a curiously large rabbit.  ArtsWeek is a chance for performing and visual artists in Cypress to show their stuff. The week starts with the Sunday Arts Delight, a crafts fair for kids and an art show for adults.  The rest of the week features art walks, concerts by church choirs and the Cypress Pops Orchestra, and plays performed by The Cypress Civic Theater Guild and Cypress Colleges Theater Department.  Other ArtsWeek highlights are the annual Cinco de Mayo fundraiser and the competition for arts scholarships open to anyone who lives in Cypress.  Concerts on the Green are a great way to get out in the summer.  Bring a picnic for free summer music ranging from classical, jazz, rock and world music.  The St. Irenaeus Fiesta is a fundraising carnival featuring ethnic foods, music and games.  Since it's been around for years, the fiesta is also a convenient place for reunions.  People who grew up in Cypress and moved away often go to the St. Irenaeus Fiesta to meet up with old friends.  The Holiday Bazaar Arts and Crafts Fair brings unique, handcrafted items, entertainment, a Mrs. Claus Kitchen, BBQ Lunch, breakfast with Santa and more. Its the perfect time to start your holiday shopping.  The Christmas Sing and Tree Lighting features Christmas caroling and lighting of the city Christmas tree. Other good goings on around the community include the recreation department which offers a variety of youth and adult sports programs throughout the year. Youth sports include t-ball, soccer and basketball, and a roller hockey league for children ages 7 to 14.  We also enjoy a summer day camp for youngsters. Children interested in swimming can take part in the Cypress Aquatics swim team.  So if your family loves sports and fun events youll never find a shortagein Cypress.

Cypress is served by two great school districts.  The Cypress School District provides excellent learning environments and each school really strives to promote the development of each childs potential.  We enjoy great teachers, low class sizes and clean, safe campuses.  Parents appreciate the many opportunities for involvement and the focus on high standards, high expectations, and the development of positive self-esteem in all children.  The Anaheim Union High School District really works to create a partnership between students, parents, teachers, and community.  The schools provide a high quality educational program by maintaining a safe, motivating learning environment that promotes high academic achievement based on a strong foundation of knowledge and skills.  Children really start to develop habits and attitudes for a lifetime of learning.

Cypress definitely is a great place to work with plenty of career opportunities.  We boast a 600-acre business park in the south end of the city which has attracted such prominent names as Mitsubishi,Yamaha and Panasonic.  We are home to top employers like PacifiCare of California Inc., Unigraphics Solutions, Continental DataGraphics, AVI inc., TDK Corporation of America, and Universal Electronic.  The city is always working to maintain its vibrancy and relevance for the business community.  New city works are always underway to keep the face of the city fresh.  Orange County ranks 4th nationally in median household income and 2nd nationally in retail sales per household.  Orange County is known for being a great place to do business and Cypress is no exception.
