LAGUNA BEACH

Let me tell you, life hasnt started until youve begun living in Laguna Beach.  Laguna Beach is a golden, seven-mile coastal stretch, with canyons and coastal hills, where mansions and quaint cottages alike are nestled among the bluffs above sandy coves.  One of my favorite ways to start a Saturday, is to wake up early, catch breakfast at Bon Saveur, then take a walk on the sand.  Afterwards, I love to take a stroll around the local streets adorned with great bookstores and art galleries.  Laguna Beach has a restorative and relaxing quality that is unlike anywhere I have been, part south of France you could say.  Lagunas universal allure is best expressed on a famous gate built in 1935 (which still stands on the corner of Forest and Park Avenues); it reads "This gate hangs well and hinders none, refresh and rest, then travel on."   But once you see this town you just might stay.
In Laguna Beach there isnt anything that you cant do.  Swim, snorkel, surf, kayak, see something new at the tide pools or simply absorb the golden sunrays.  In Laguna Beach we enjoy our clean, gorgeous beaches with 30 public beaches and interesting coves. Sawdust Festival is an enjoyable summer arts and crafts fair with over 180 very unique artists.  Ninety minutes of "living pictures" called The Pageant of the Masters. It is an incredibly faithful art re-creations of classical and contemporary works with real people posing to look exactly like their counterparts in the original pieces. An outdoor amphitheater, professional orchestra, original score, live narration, intricate sets, sophisticated lighting, expert staff, and hundreds of dedicated volunteers have won recognition for the Pageant as the best presentation of its kind. There is simply nothing like it.  When on the sand I love to see the ongoing public art works, including murals and sculptures, where the beaches and the arts overlap.  The grassy parkland along the city's Main Beach is the perfect spot to watch a pro volleyball match or a pick-up game of basketball. This is the same basketball court where White Men Can't Jump was filmed.  In north Laguna Beach there are many small, rugged coves, which make for great snorkeling and scuba diving.  Hike, walk and explore in the citys 20 parks and wildlife reserves.  My favorite is
Laguna Coast Wilderness Park with its lush, sycamore-shaded canyons and high ridges.  The parks view of the Pacific Ocean is like nothing I have seen before and it creates a spectacular environment for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding.  From the sea and tide pools, to the rugged wilderness, you cant help but enjoy this beautiful city.

Arts and entertainment have a long history in Laguna Beach.  This town has seen some famous faces.  The arts community came first, with artists who painted outdoors in the style of Monets French Impressionists. Following the artists came the Hollywood filmmakers who found Laguna to be every bit as appealing on the silver screen as it was painted on canvas.

Many of Hollywoods famous stars like Bette Davis, Mary Pickford, Mary Miles Minter, Victor Mature, Judy Garland, Rudolph Valentino, Charlie Chaplin and Mickey Rooney maintained homes in Laguna Beach. These early Hollywood stars founded the Laguna Playhouse in 1920.  The Laguna Playhouse is the oldest continuously operating theatre company on the west coast. Laguna Beach was said to have been an influence on John Steinbeck while he wrote the acclaimed novel Tortilla Flats.  Laguna Beach has an attraction and energy that you can feel, theres just something special about it.

Before all of this, Laguna Beach was a resort town, a home of rest and relaxation, a fact that still remains true today. Some call Laguna Beach a little piece of paradise, I call it home.
