Local good times can be had at any of the great community events we enjoy throughout the year.We have two large community festivals, the aptly named "I Love La Habra" fair and the Corn Festival. Both festivals temporarily shut down the main drag, La Habra Boulevard to bring the community together, along with thousands from nearby communities as well. This is one of the oldest festivals in the county, dating back to 1949.Though its grown considerably since then, the purpose is still the same, to bring neighbors together over an ear of corn and good fun to celebrate their community. The Corn Festival brings as many as 100,000 people to the area, and the event often serves as a reunion for residents who have moved away but still consider La Habra their home.It features carnival rides, games and a community parade. The "I Love La Habra Festival" started as a roaming carnival and has now become an annual event rooted at the center of town, in front of City Hall.About a half-mile stretch of La Habra Boulevard closes as the whirling rides and snow cone stands go up.If good food is how you like to get your kicks, the Gourmet Guys Chilrdrens Museum annual fund raiser are perfect for you.Amateur chefs from all over cook up their favorite dishes for a chance to win a blue ribbon from some local pros.More than 100 chefs enter dishes in more than a dozen categories, and those in attendance get to eat to their hearts content. The summer offers great concerts in the park and caters to a variety of musical tastes including jazz, rock and swing. For community theater, the La Habra Depot Theatre is a unique experience. An OrangeCounty historic landmark, the theatre is a converted train depot, where you can catch everything from comedies, dramas, and musicals, to youth theater and childrens shows.
As any good family town should, La Habra has great places to play.We have twenty public parks, which span 117 collective acres of parkland where we can enjoy sports fields, tennis courts, and a skate park, as well as green areas, picnic tables, barbecues and playgrounds. There is a little something for everyone. The La HabraCommunity Center is a city favorite. This $2 million building has paid off greatly for the community.Among the programs offered at the center are recreational classes and programs, like adult softball, basketball and volleyball leagues. Summer time is made great for kids with kids sports camps and leagues. The center is a community focal point for volunteer programs, senior services, social services, information and referral programs and daily, weekend and weeklong trips to name a few.The center is home to the second largest TLC senior dining program in the county which offers seniors friendship and camaraderie with a lunch served at noon five days a week. Its a place for everyone in the community, and approximately 1,500 to 2,500 people go in and out of the community center each day.
La Habra offers students a great education. The La HabraCitySchool District believes in a child-centered program that recognizes the individual abilities, needs and interests of each student.Teaching methods and educational programs are designed to help students reach their potential with an emphasis placed on respecting the rights and opinions of others. The educational atmosphere encourages the development of individuals who are capable of becoming responsible citizens in a society of rapid change and unforeseeable demands.
