In Los Alamitos, we are never far from great entertainment. Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, Knotts Berry Farm and the Aquarium of the Pacific are all just
minutes away. For the sports fan check out the Anaheim Angels baseball team at Edison Field or the Mighty Ducks hockey team at the Arrowhead Pond. We are the proud home to the USA Water Polo National Aquatic Center, the training ground for the United States Women's Olympic Water Polo Team. If youre looking for first class entertainment and big name stars, The Cerritos Performing Arts Center is just the ticket. There is always great music at the Anaheim House of Blues and the Grove of Anaheim. It must be said, Southern California is known for its beautiful beaches and in Los Alamitos we are in luck. We are just down the road from some of the most beautiful beaches in all of Southern California in Seal Beach. You can soak up the local culture on a stroll through the downtown area, making it the perfect spot for shopping, dining or people watching. If you prefer turf to surf, both the Cypress Golf Club and Navy Golf Course offer exceptional courses. In fact, Cypress Golf Club was Tiger Woods home course until shortly after he turned pro in 1996. The Navy Golf Course is located on the Joint Forces Training Base at the Naval Air Station in Los Alamitos. Of course, youll definitely want to check out the Los Alamitos Race Course, its a fun a day of world-class Quarter Horse, Arabian, Thoroughbred, Paint and Appaloosa racing. For outdoor family fun or a get together with neighbors, Los Alamitos has the perfect setting. The 4 Laurel Park, the 6 acre Little Cottonwood Park, or the 2 acre Orville R. Lewis Park all offer great ways to sit back and relax or get up and go. The Los Alamitos Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of programs for children, adults and senior citizens. To assure that all people have the opportunity to take part in programs, scholarships are offered through the Los Alamitos Rotary Club. A host of special interest classes are offered for youths and adults including arts and crafts, dance, cooking, music, dog training and rock climbing. We even have our own museum, featuring the work of many Los Alamitos citizens who have received national or international recognition in a variety of fields. The museum began 20 years ago and has memorabilia dating to the early 1900s, from old photos to tools and toys. There also is a small hall of fame that marks noteworthy local events, such as the air-speed record made by ex-senator and astronaut John Glenn when he flew cross-country, starting at our own Armed Forces Reserve Center.

You get that warm small town feeling anytime you go to one of Los Alamitos community events. The Fireworks Spectacular is always a good bet. This free, daylong
event draws people from Los Alamitos as well as surrounding communities to the Armed Forces Reserve Center in Los Alamitos. Go early and enjoy the military displays and family entertainment with stilt-walkers, clowns, jugglers, mimes and magicians. The fireworks show begins at dark with a 30-minute aerial pyrotechnic extravaganza. The day before the Fireworks Spectacular, the Suburbia Estates Independence Day Parade provides good family fun. The parade travels through neighborhood streets with floats made by neighborhood families, classic cars, costumes and plenty of revelry. It culminates in a post-parade neighborhood block party with music and dancing, an old-fashioned hay-wagon ride and many great games with lots of prizes, face painting and a moon bounce. The Los Alamitos Annual 10K Run/5K Run is our yearly event that continues to provide not only a forum for local avid runners and walkers, but also instills a sense of pride and teamwork with the varied organizations throughout the city. The run is a community-wide event with residents lining the curbs in front of their houses, and whole families turning out to watch runners pass. There is also a 1K Kids Fun Run and 5K Parade of Walkers. The course is recognized as one of the best 10K courses in Southern California. The Family Fun Picnic Day is just one more way the folks of Los Alamitos get together for a good time. People come for music, rides, food and games. Last years attendance was estimated at 1,000. Pony rides, a petting zoo and crafts fair help to give it an extra fun touch. Local school groups usually provide musical entertainment, in addition to featured bands.
Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and a picnic dinner for Concert on the Green as Los Alamitos hosts an evening of music at Laurel Park. The park offers an ideal setting for kids to play and enjoy the evening, and if they spend some of it dancing in front of the stage, then all the better. We also have two great carnivals in Los Alamitos. The Spring Carnival is held at the Community Center and includes games, prizes and rides. The Halloween Carnival is also held at the Community Center with carnival games, prizes and activities. Wizard Magic Show, a costume contest and pumpkin carving contest are always a crowd pleaser at this event. Everyone walks away with prizes! The carnivals in Los Alamitos are great fun for everyone.
