Placentia

Placentias easy going, small-town ambience is a matter of pride among folks in our fair city of about 7 square miles. Placentia also continues to be a fast-growing community of 45,000 residents, attracting people with its beautiful suburban homes, good schools, stately churches, and wholesome recreation. We enjoy a sense of community here that is difficult to come by.By some estimates, almost three-fourths of Placentias residents participate in some aspect of civic life that contributes to this communitys wonderful hometown feeling, from Little League to the Heritage Day Festival. We are a quiet bedroom community where most people leave town to work, but once back home, there are 15 parks, a city library, celebrations and festivities, and the historic Santa Fe Plaza area all in reach.Placentia is Latin for "a pleasant place to live" and we are proud to have retained the small town image that has remained since settlers arrived more than 100 years ago.Events such as the annual Heritage Festival and Street Fair bring people together each year to renew friendships. The many parks and well kept medians give Placentia an open space feeling.Placentia has great opportunities to play right here in the city and the recreational programs are very popular among children and adults alike. Some of our famous residents include gold-medalist swimmer, Janet Evans, tennis player, Michael Chang, and golfer, Tiger Woods. With small town warmth and a strong community spirit within our modern, well-developed city, Placentia has plenty to offer families of all types.

One of the best things about Placentia is its great location. We are near great schools in Fullerton; also know as "The Education Community," with five colleges and universities, including Cal State Fullerton,  Fullerton College, a law school and two other private schools. We are near fantastic entertainment in Anaheim, home to the world famous Disneyland and the Disney California Adventure, two professional sports teams, the Anaheim Angels baseball team and the Mighty Ducks hockey team, as well as great musical venues like the Arrowhead Pond, the House of Blues and The Grove of Anaheim, Placentia is close to other great sporting and cultural events as well as excellent shopping in Long Beach and Los Angeles.

Placentia has its share of historic gems as well.We love the reminders of local history at places like the Historic George Key Ranch. The beautifully landscaped grounds of this historic home hold a botanical garden and orange grove. The one-acre commercial citrus ranch recalls the days when the entire area was used by Sunkist growers.Built in 1898, the ranch offers visitors a view of life in the early days of Orange County citrus farming and it is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.  The A.S. Bradford House, built in 1902 was the home of Albert Bradford on his Tesoro Rancho.Bradford was one of the founders of Placentia and organized Placentia National Bank and Bradford Packinghouse.

Because of Placentias great community spirit, our local events are filled with excitement and are a great way to catch up with friends and meet new ones. The Summer Concert series is held every summer and offers a great chance to get the family together over a picnic, a blanket and good music. The lineup varies between musical styles like country, classic rock and instrumental. The Fourth of July Fireworks Festival is definitely a celebration. The fun and games include ground and aerial fireworks, a community softball game and children's competitions. The Heritage Festival and Parade has been a community favorite since 1965.The festival is our celebration of Placentias heritage and includes a parade and fair booths with High school bands, notable residents and clowns. The Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony is how we kick off that special time of year.Carolers often provide the musical accompaniment for the lighting of the tree.Placentias recreation department also offers a great way to get involved in community activities and offers a variety of basketball programs and adult slow pitch softball leagues throughout the year. There are other great programs in tennis, youth sports, swimming, tumbling, golf, karate, dancing and more. Various camps and clinics are also sponsored by the city throughout the year, bringing in top players and coaches in their respective sports to teach interested players how to improve their games. We also enjoy classes on subjects from dancing and yoga to music and weight-loss.

Orange County is home to some of the top schools in the state and the nation. The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District offers our local kids a great start on the life long journey of learning.Eleven district schools have been designated as California Distinguished Schools, two have been named National Blue Ribbon Schools and one was named a California Model School.PYLUSD students have won honors in county, state, and national competition, including CIF championships, Academic Decathlon and Pentathlon tournaments, and mock trials. Graduating classes earn over $2 million annually in academic and athletic scholarships and receive appointments to West Point, Annapolis, and the Air Force Academy.PYLUSD is proud to have among its graduates Olympic Gold Medalists Janet Evans and Michele Granger, State Senator John Lewis, world-renowned opera soprano Deborah Voigt, baseball star Dan Petry, and Dr. William Schoolcraft, a nationally recognized physician.Schools in Placentia truly provide quality educational experiences that develop life-long learners.
